Installation of laravel

Table des matières

1. Prerequisites

(Depending on the version that will be installed)

2. Composer

Make sure the composer is mentioned in the Windows Path variable:

3. Install laravel

If errors occur, look to the possible errors.

From a command prompt:

composer global require "laravel/installer"

If the open_ssl Apache module is not loaded, composer will complain and also suggest disabling the tls mode. This can be done by running composer config -g -- disable-tls true but don’t do this since the installation process won’t be able to install Laravel. Follow the open_ssl guide if needed (see open_ssl)

4. Run a new installation

Once everything is installed correctly, we can run the following command from the prompt:

laravel new app_name

app_name will be the name of the sub-folder that will be created. A fresh installation of Laravel will be done with all dependencies installed.

The output will look like

C:\Christophe\Repository>laravel new app_name

By going into the app_name folder, to retrieve the Lavaral version information, just run from a command prompt:

php artisan -V

If everything was fine, the version of Laravel should be displayed:

C:\Christophe\Repository\app_name>php artisan -V
Laravel Framework 5.6.29

When finished, the result of laraval new app_name will be a folder structure like this:

Laravel app folder's structure

5. laravelcollective/html

Laravel has a helper for working with HTML: laravelcollective/html.

This package was installed by default before v5 so, if needed, this package should be installed manually, this can be easily done thanks to:

composer require "laravelcollective/html":"^5.2.0"

That package will allow f.i. creating HTML forms, adding css or js, ...

See for more installation steps.
